About the Role

This role, reporting to the Business Development Director, involves preparing technical estimations as part of bids for traffic controller signal (TCS) and intelligent transportation system (ITS) installation and upgrade projects of various sizes, and operations and maintenance contracts. There will be a combination of site and office work, with a primary focus on creating cost estimates for the Operations & Maintenance, as well as Major Projects departments for the Australia and New Zealand regions of the business.

The position requires a detailed understanding of project specifications and a strong ability to deliver accurate cost estimates for both ongoing maintenance projects and large-scale projects. This role will represent Yunex Traffic as the technical subject matter expert in customer interactions as part of the Business Development team, working closely with the Business Development Managers and Business Development Director.

 

What are the responsibilities?

  • Complete accurate and detailed cost build ups for material, labour, sub-contractor and overheads based on project requirements

  • Carry out site visits to understand customer requirements and scope

  • Review project plans, specification and drawings and translate into effort and equipment calculations

  • Work closely with internal teams and other stakeholders to understand the technical aspects of the project and clarify any uncertainties

  • Ensure that the most recent rates are used for calculations and work with the relevant internal teams to ensure procurement processes are being followed

  • Contact suppliers for tailored quotes  

  • Identify potential risks or challenges in the proposal that could affect the project's cost and timeline, and incorporate contingency plans into the estimate

  • Preparation of variation orders during the delivery phase of projects

  • From time to time you may be required to visit other states to carry out similar tasks, you may also be asked to support the wider APAC business

  • Use data from existing quotes and compare with delivered projects to carry out lessons learnt analysis

  • Assist the development and deployment of Yunex Traffic technologies in Australia and New Zealand

 

Knowledge & Skills

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills to liaise with internal and external stakeholders including contracts, finance, operations, delivery and senior management as well as external customers, suppliers and subcontractors.

  • Ability to interpret technical drawings, project timelines and requirements, and relevant applicable State and Local Government standards and specifications in order to estimate effort, duration, materials and support required for successful delivery

  • Competence in Microsoft Office programs including MS Word, MS Excel and MS Project

  • Ability to achieve objectives with strict deadlines and manage your own workload

  • Outlook - co-operative, helpful, willing to use initiative and conscientious

  • Flexibility - willing to change, move from one activity or work area to another, learn new activities, pick up new jobs confidently and easily

  • Previous experience in technical areas in the ITS industry

 

Preferred experience

  • Understanding of traffic signal fundamentals and TfNSW SPECIFICATION D&C TS101

  • Transport for New South Wales (RMS) ITS standards/specifications

  • Victoria Department of Transport and Planning STS, STCE, SCTV prequalification categories

  • Knowledge of ITS and traffic signal products from across the industry

  • SCATS knowledge 

 

Desired experience

  • Previous experience in technical and/or construction areas in the ITS industry 

  • Understanding of schedule of rates, price build ups and business margin requirements

 

Required Qualifications

  • Full Australian Driving License (or equivalent)

  • White Card
