The Labour, Excavator operator, Civil technician is responsible for delivering the civil installation elements of Intelligent Transport Systems (ITS) and Traffic Control Systems (TCS) projects across the O&M portfolio. This includes the construction, modification, and reconstruction of assets to meet technical specifications and safety standards. The role plays a key part in supporting Yunex Traffic’s operational objectives through high-quality workmanship and adherence to customer and regulatory requirements.

The working pattern will be approximately 70%-night shift and 30%-day shift, but this can change depending on customer requirements, overtime is also available.

 

Areas of responsibility and tasks

Carry out the below but not limited to the following:

  • Comply with internal and external processes.
  • Construction and reconstruction of assets, such as Traffic Control Signals (TCS), Variable Message Signs (VMS) and Hazard warning signs (AWS, VSLS) etc.  
  • Electrical testing of ITS assets. 
  • Preparation of equipment prior to final installation e.g., Traffic Signal Controllers or vehicle detection systems.
  • Installation or modification of new and existing TCS and ITS assets.
  • Successful completion of mandatory technical or safety related training.
  • Undertake appropriate training with the addition of new equipment and systems as and when necessary, via formal and informal training, including on the job training.
  • Liaising with customers and other contractors that may be on site.
  • Ensuring works are completed in accordance with the site specification, in a timely manner and to a high-quality level.
  • Conduct yourself in accordance with the Company Health and Safety Policy, all employees have a duty to comply with all Health and Safety Procedures and to be alert in identifying potential hazards by removing or minimising them wherever possible.
  • Any other duties reasonably practicable within the skills required for the role

 

It is desirable but not mandatory to have the following:

  • Experience with Traffic Signal infrastructure or pit & pipe work.
  • Excavator experience and VOC
  • Rigger and Dogmen VOC.

 

Knowledge & Skills

The key competencies and capabilities for this role are:

  • Training will be provided where required in the relevant asset categories.
  • High level of communication skills, both verbal and written, will be necessary as you will be expected to liaise with other parts of the business and with customers.
  • Ability to achieve objectives with strict deadlines and manage your own workload.
  • Be co-operative, helpful, willing to use initiative and conscientious.

  • Must hold full Driving License, MR/HR preferred.
  • Must be physically fit as this role requires a certain element of manual handling.

Desired qualifications and experience

It is desirable but not mandatory to have a technical understanding in some/all the following traffic engineering competencies:

  • Traffic signal fundamentals and TfNSW SPECIFICATION D&C TS101
  • Transport for New South Wales (RMS) ITS standards/specifications
  • Knowledge of ITS and traffic signal products from across the industry
  • Excavator, Rigger, or Dogman VOC
  • Construction White card
  • First aid / CPR
  • Basic Traffic Control.
