Yunex Traffic is delivering the next generation of intelligent transport and tunnel management systems for the Western Harbour Tunnel. Our technology stack spans SCADA, distributed systems, Kubernetes, GitOps, automation pipelines, and fully on-prem infrastructure across multiple mission-critical environments.

We’re looking for a DevOps Engineer who understands infrastructure as a craft—someone who can observe, tune, and automate complex systems to keep our environments predictable and healthy. You’ll be responsible for the operational integrity and observability of several on-prem Kubernetes environments and will work closely with software, SCADA, and integration teams across the full deployment pipeline.

You bring strong experience with on-prem operations, automation, and distributed systems. You understand what it takes to keep multiple environments aligned and stable, and you thrive in systems where reliability truly matters—where careful engineering directly supports a safety-critical transport network.

What You’ll Do

You’ll manage and evolve multiple RKE2 Kubernetes clusters across development, integration, testing, FAT/SAT, and production. Your work ensures the platform remains reliable, observable, and automated end-to-end.

Key responsibilities:

  • Owning observability across all environments (logs, metrics, traces, dashboards, alerts).
  • Maintaining and improving on-prem Kubernetes clusters managed through Rancher.
  • Managing cluster lifecycle: upgrades, node maintenance, HA, certificates, backups, DR.
  • Building and maintaining GitLab CI/CD pipelines for infrastructure and applications.
  • Using Terraform to automate networking, VMs, storage, load balancers, and certificates.
  • Operating and enhancing Argo CD for multi-environment GitOps deployments.
  • Using Ansible for configuration management and environment automation.
  • Implementing and maintaining backup and recovery strategies.
  • Troubleshooting environment issues and leading root-cause investigations.
  • Working closely with SCADA engineers, developers, and PLC/integration teams.
  • Maintaining documentation, runbooks, and architecture references.

What You Bring

  • Strong hands-on Kubernetes experience in on-prem environments (RKE2 or upstream).
  • Experience managing clusters via Rancher (projects, quotas, access control).
  • Solid GitOps experience with Helm and Argo CD.
  • Strong GitLab CI/CD experience.
  • Terraform and Ansible expertise for automating on-prem infrastructure.
  • Experience with observability stacks (Prometheus, Grafana, Loki, ELK, etc.).
  • Strong Linux engineering and troubleshooting skills.
  • Ability to work with TLS, certificate chains, and internal PKI.
  • Understanding of VLANs, load balancers, DNS, firewalling, and routing.
  • VMware/Proxmox or similar virtualisation experience.
  • Experience with multi-site or DR environments (desirable).
  • Background in SCADA, industrial control, transport, or mission-critical systems (advantageous).

You’re an engineer who enjoys owning the lifecycle of complex environments. You think in terms of stability and root causes, build automation that’s maintainable, and document your work so the whole team moves faster. You approach critical systems with calm, methodical care.

These environments support real-time monitoring and control of a major transport tunnel. Reliability isn’t a preference—it’s a public safety requirement. Your engineering work helps form the backbone of Sydney’s transport infrastructure.
