Site Material Logistics Professional

Job Summary

The Site Material Logistics Professional is responsible for planning, coordinating, tracking, and managing the flow of materials, equipment, tools, and supplies required to support construction, engineering, infrastructure, utility, manufacturing, or capital improvement projects. This position serves as the primary liaison between project teams, suppliers, procurement personnel, vendors, transportation providers, warehouse operations, and field personnel to ensure materials are delivered safely, accurately, and on schedule. Roles of this type typically focus on coordinating deliveries, inventory control, storage logistics, supplier communications, and material flow management to prevent project delays and optimize site productivity.

The Site Material Logistics Professional develops and executes logistics plans, monitors inventory and material availability, coordinates site deliveries, manages laydown yards and staging areas, and supports project teams through effective supply chain management and operational planning. This role combines logistics expertise, project coordination, inventory management, supplier relationship management, and data analytics to enhance project efficiency and cost control

In addition, Conducts logistics activities on project sites aiming at an increase of customer satisfaction, and ensures the success of the project by accurate and on schedule coordination of material handling.

Primary Responsibilities

• Represents the interests of the Project Management on site to the customer, regulatory authorities and consultants.
• Coordinates, communicates and maintains all dates and information from project site to ensure accurate, on schedule and economical processing and optimized supply regarding customer needs.
• Ensures information regarding disposition of goods during transport and permanently update of this information to create options for alternative actions by information of all involved parties in a timely manner.
• Creates deficiency and status reports regarding material and product availability based on the needs of the customer supply concept to provide an assured data and information base.
• Documents and processes complaints or transport damages with responsible partners (Project Logistics Manager, Project Purchase, Insurance) to secure any recourse claims and to take further measures.
• Acts as the interface to involved external logistics providers on project sites and coordinate their activities, ensuring cost-effective and seamless operations.
• Initiates and coordinates the erection, operation and return of the logistic infrastructure and the equipment on the building site to guarantee compliant, cost-efficient and smooth construction site logistics.
• Supports the Project Logistics Manager with the development, calculation and implementation of logistics contingency measures during short-term variances from the planned supply concept to ensure an optimized supply related to the current conditions.
• Supports the Project Logistic Manager with the concluding project evaluation and advancement of the project-specific process of customer supply to ensure high transparency over the whole supply process in the project and to gain input for the enhancement of future projects which are related to the customer supply.
• Reports to the project logistics manager and leads own supply chain personnel on project site.

Material Planning and Coordination

• Develop and maintain detailed material logistics plans aligned with project schedules and operational requirements.
• Coordinate delivery schedules to ensure materials, equipment, and supplies arrive at project sites when needed while minimizing congestion and storage constraints.
• Collaborate with project managers, engineers, construction teams, and procurement personnel to identify current and future material requirements.  
• Monitor lead times, supplier performance, backorders, and delivery commitments to proactively address potential shortages or delays.

Inventory and Materials Management

• Monitor inventory levels across project sites, warehouses, and staging locations.
• Manage material receiving, storage, issuance, tracking, transfers, and reconciliations.
• Maintain accurate inventory records and support physical inventory audits and cycle counts.
• Coordinate surplus material recovery, returns, replacement requests, and disposition activities.
• Identify opportunities to reduce waste, improve inventory accuracy, and optimize material utilization.

Site Logistics Operations

• Coordinate inbound and outbound transportation activities, delivery sequencing, and site access requirements.
• Manage material staging areas, storage facilities, laydown yards, and distribution processes.
• Coordinate loading, unloading, handling, and movement of materials throughout project locations.
• Ensure materials are properly labeled, secured, stored, and protected from damage or loss.

Supplier and Vendor Management

• Develop and maintain productive relationships with suppliers, transportation providers, subcontractors, and vendors.
• Coordinate procurement and logistics activities to ensure seamless material flow from supplier to project site.
• Resolve delivery discrepancies, damaged shipments, shortages, and material quality concerns.
• Support supplier performance evaluations and continuous improvement initiatives. Project Support and Reporting

• Participate in construction planning meetings, logistics reviews, and project coordination sessions.
• Prepare logistics reports, inventory analyses, material status updates, and KPI dashboards.
• Track key performance indicators including inventory accuracy, material availability, supplier performance, delivery reliability, and logistics costs.
• Support project closeout activities, material reconciliations, and documentation requirements.

Safety and Compliance

• Ensure all logistics activities comply with company policies, OSHA requirements, and applicable regulatory standards.
• Support site safety programs related to material handling, transportation, storage, and equipment operations.
• Maintain compliance with documentation, quality assurance, and operational control procedures.

Minimum Qualifications

Education

• Minimum High School Graduate
• Batchlors Degree in Logistics, Supply Chain fields ideal

Experience

• Five (5) or more years of experience in logistics, materials management, supply chain operations, construction support, project logistics, inventory management, or related operational roles.
• Experience supporting engineering, construction, manufacturing, infrastructure, utility, or capital project environments preferred.
• Experience utilizing ERP, inventory management, procurement, and logistics software solutions.

Preferred Certifications

• APICS Certified Supply Chain Professional (CSCP).
• APICS Certified in Planning and Inventory Management (CPIM).
• Certified Professional in Supply Management (CPSM).
• Project Management Professional (PMP) preferred.
• Lean Six Sigma certification preferred.
