What are my responsibilities? 

  • Act as Commercial Project Manager of projects, undertaking the financial and commercial management aspects of the project with the overall aim to deliver the contract whilst improving contract profitability.
  • Act as commercial partner to Project Management for smaller projects as and when required.
  • Ensure that the project is run in compliance with all commercial management requirements as detailed under our Financial Reporting Guidelines, including creation of accounting treatment papers and update of project reporting tools monthly.
  • In conjunction with Project Managers, understand, manage and control invoicing opportunities and project costs to optimise cashflow.
  • Manage all commercial variations (changes, claims, price formulae, etc) to customer contracts, including involvement in negotiation and agreement of same
  • Work with the Project Manager and Finance colleagues to ensure that the forecasting and financial reporting of the project are reflected fully and accurately in the consolidated business statements.
  • Act as Commercial Bid Manager in the preparation of major tenders, ensuring that all commercial and financial inputs are completed in line with the business’ commercial approval and control requirements.
  • Take primary responsibility for financial models used for internal approval and completing customer pricing submissions, participating in risk review and valuation with the tender team.

 

What do I need to qualify for the role?

  • Good verbal and written communication skills. The role will give you the opportunity to collaborate and communicate extensively within the project team and other areas of the business, as well as with customers and suppliers.
  • Completion or significant progress towards a professional accounting qualification would be highly beneficial (ACA/CIMA/ACCA).
  • Advanced skills using Excel and MS Word, and familiarity with SAP and intranet-based tools.
  • Experience of commercial project management and tendering support is desirable but not essential.
  • Previous work within construction/contracting or engineering sectors are desirable but not essential.
