Based out of our head office in Poole, we’re looking for an Senior Electronics Design Engineer. You’ll be joining a friendly and supportive team to specify, design, build, test and productionise a wide range of electronic boards and systems for the traffic industry. You’ll perform integration, trial, and approval activities for 3rd party products.

What will you do?

  • Work as a member of a cross functional team in refining the product requirements generated by Product Line Management (PLM) and contribute to driving technical innovation into new designs.
  • Write detailed design documentation for the system, board or module level and participate in reviews of these specifications.
  • Create cost estimates and development time/effort estimates and worth to these.
  • Be able to select appropriate analogue and digital components with due regard to cost, availability, function, specification, accuracy, reliability, multi-source, size, pitch, environmental performance etc.
  • Liaise with component manufacturers and distributors as appropriate.
  • Simulate designs using analogue and/or digital simulation.
  • Schematic and PCB design and layout
  • Perform testing of prototypes, modifying boards and updating the design as appropriate.
  • Perform EMC and environmental testing and diagnosis to achieve appropriate approvals and certification for the intended use.
  • Document the design and input to customer handbooks and other user, configuration, and maintenance documentation.
  • Work with PLM, Sales, and the Training School to support product during initial field trails and subsequent transfer to maintenance and training.
  • Provide ongoing product support throughout the product lifecycle.

 

Who are you?

  • Possess a degree or HND or equivalent qualification in electrical and/or electronic engineering.
  • Have demonstrable experience of electrical/electronic circuit design, layout, simulation, and assembly.
  • Have experience of fault-finding of complex electrical and electronic systems using a wide range of diagnostic tools and methods.
  • Be knowledgeable of relevant technical standards and apply these to the design.
  • Experience of microcontroller technologies – especially from TI and ST.
  • Knowledge of working with serial protcols (I2C, SPI, CAN, Ethernet, USB, UART, RS485, PCIe etc)
  • Have experience of designing products that meet electrical safety, EMC and climatic requirements
  • Have experience of working well within a team, demonstrating good teamworking and written and verbal communication skills.
  • Be willing to mentor interns and junior engineers and be ready for new challenges and opportunities.
