Cloud Infrastructure Manager

As a result of recent organisational changes, we are seeking a Cloud Infrastructure Manager.

In this role, you will lead an experienced team supporting and securing our existing cloud infrastructure, platforms, and customer systems. You will have the opportunity to design, implement and take ownership of new solutions, working closely with our PLM and cross-departmental development teams to understand business and technical priorities and deliver highly effective support for our products and services.

You will play a key role in driving the department's operational vision and delivering comprehensive technical solutions to our customers across a diverse range of services. Areas of responsibility and tasks:

  • Align Cloud Infrastructure and Platform team activities to enhance collaboration and drive adoption of Infrastructure as Code (IaC).
  • Oversee infrastructure operations across product streams, ensuring delivery, support for key systems, and managing change processes in compliance with procedures.
  • Lead platform technology implementation and automation, integrating in-house and third-party solutions in customer environments.
  • Promote security best practices, managing vulnerabilities, patches, threat assessments, and ensuring compliance.
  • Define, document, and streamline new processes, ensuring the team maintains, communicates, and adheres to them effectively.
  • Mentor team members, enhancing their technical skills and business acumen.
  • Manage hosting costs, collaborate with support teams, ensure SLA/KPI adherence, and facilitate audits.
  • Encourage personal development with a focus on technology and applications.

 

Knowledge & Skills

Essential:

  • Extensive Technical Expertise: Able to demonstrate expert-level experience managing cloud infrastructure, networks, operating systems, and databases, with deep knowledge of key AWS services and cloud environments.

  • Problem-solving and Adaptability: Outstanding problem-solving skills, with the ability to switch between technical streams, master complex solutions, and assess new technologies effectively.
  • Collaboration and Communication: Possess excellent communication skills, with the ability to explain technical concepts to non-technical audiences, while building strong relationships with colleagues and customers.
  • Leadership and Ownership: Demonstrate ownership in driving issues and ideas, working collaboratively across teams to meet deadlines and deliver effective solutions.
  • DevOps and CI/CD Knowledge: Experience in DevOps processes, CI/CD pipelines, infrastructure as code (IaaS/PaaS), and related tools.

 

Desirable:

  • Cloud Expertise: In-depth knowledge of AWS services, including queuing systems (ActiveMQ, RabbitMQ, Kafka), S3, IAM, and database technologies (MySQL, SQL Server, DynamoDB).
  • Qualification: Cloud services certification (specifically AWS)
  • Networking & VPNs: Familiar with VPN configurations and related technologies.
  • Automation & Scripting: Proficiency in scripting to automate and deliver cloud-based solutions.
  • Containerisation & Orchestration: Experience with Kubernetes and associated tools.
  • Agile Methodology: Understanding of the Agile development lifecycle.
  • Industry Knowledge: Knowledge of Intelligent Traffic Control Systems.
