This includes intersection and pedestrian traffic controllers, intelligent urban traffic control systems, variable message signs, public transport, and car park guidance systems to enhance road safety and improve traffic flow in congested urban and inter-urban areas.

This will be a 2 year apprenticeship working within the Bids and Tendering team, where you will complete an apprenticeship qualification in Business Administration alongside your role.


The candidate

We are looking for forward-thinking, inquisitive candidates who demonstrate the following characteristics:

  • Be organised, methodical, able to prioritise workload and communicate with a variety of stakeholders
  • Be a team player with good attention to detail and ability to work with complete confidentiality
  • Be proactive and able to operate on your own initiative with supervision
  • Be willing to learn the Microsoft 365 Applications (including but not limited to Word, Excel, Powerpoint, Teams and Sharepoint)
  • Have a desire to learn and to win


Here is what you can make a difference in:

  • Manage email and portal inboxes for enquiry invitations, notifications, clarifications and orders
  • Be responsible for the accurate logging of customer enquiries or distribution of notifications, and other relevant tender communications
  • Input and update Tendering entries to databases including CRM, Credit (Mendix) and the Tendering WIP (Work In Progress)
  • Completion of Prequalification/Supplier Questionnaires
  • Process customer orders and ensure a full handover of files to project teams
  • Examine and interpret customer specifications & site drawings for equipment take offs and required services
  • Build quotations for the required equipment and services from various internal and third party cost sources 
  • Preparation of summary sheets to obtain authorisation for quotation submissions
  • Timely submission of competitively priced, technically & commercially sound quotations


The location of this apprenticeship role will be: Glasgow or Poole

Minimum Educational Requirements

You will be on track or have achieved the below qualifications to be eligible for this apprenticeship:

  • Maths (grade 4-9) or equivalent
  • English (grade 4-9) or equivalent
  • For Scotland: Three National 4 qualifications and one National 5 qualification at Grade C or above in relevant* subjects; OR
  • Other equivalent qualifications or experience

*relevant subjects include English, Administration, Business Management, Economics, Geography, History, Mathematics, Modern Studies or a Science subject

Recruitment Process

Applications for our apprenticeships will close between 28 Feb – 18 March 2024.


We will be holding in-person 'Getting to know Yu' days between mid February – early March 2024 which will allow candidates the best opportunity to showcase their potential and suitability for this role by using a variety of assessment types.  This session will be held in an afternoon or morning slot and will typically include a combination of tasks and activities such as group problem-solving tasks, individual interviews, presentations, and role simulation exercises. 


For some roles, there will also be an initial video (Microsoft Teams) or telephone interview - these are likely to be held during February 2024, before the Getting to Know Yu day. These interviews are typically competency based and a chance for us to find out what your motivations are for your next career.


Our Apprentices will join the business on 19th August 2024 so you must be available from this date.
