Here at Yunex Traffic we want to make mobility safer, more efficient, and more sustainable with forward-looking infrastructure and transport solutions. Yunex Traffic designs, markets, manufactures, installs, and maintains a wide portfolio of international traffic management products and is the UK market leader in the traffic signal business. This includes intersection and pedestrian traffic controllers, intelligent urban traffic control systems, variable message signs, public transport, and car park guidance systems to enhance road safety and improve traffic flow in congested urban and inter-urban areas.

 

The challenge

Part of being a #TrafficTransformer apprentice at Yunex Traffic means you get to work on real life projects whilst also being supported on a guided learning journey, and often experiencing different areas within the business.

 

Our apprentices get the opportunity to find their passion and in turn, we get to experience their drive and zest for new ideas and initiatives. We are always looking for apprentices who want to make a difference to the world we live in.

 

This will be a Level 3 apprenticeship, over a 4-year period.

 

The candidate

Role Specific Requirements

  • Align with our Yunex Traffic values, including Zero Harm, Innovation, Customer Focus, and Ownership.
  • Be willing to travel to multiple of our Yunex Traffic sites across the UK for training.

 

Essential Skills

  • Enjoy collaborating with others to find innovative solutions.
  • Have a willingness to self-learn, research and take a creative approach to problem solving.
  • Possess good organisational and time management skills to assist in completing the academic qualifications and occupational skills developments within this apprenticeship.
  • Take ownership of challenges and ideas
  • Be forward thinking and inquisitive.
  • Willing to learn to drive if you do not already, with an ideal to be passed by completion of Year 2 of the apprenticeship (dependant on age of applicant)

 

Basic Skills

  • Have good communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Demonstrate effective listening and teamwork skills, to create a collaborative work environment and strengthen relationships.
  • Be IT literate; able to use Microsoft Office packages, including Word, Excel and Outlook.

 

Here is what you can make a difference in:

  • Work with experienced installation teams, learning how to install traffic signal assets (including the installation and wiring of controllers), ancillary equipment, and/or highways systems.
  • After gaining knowledge and understanding of traffic signal installations, work both unsupervised and as part of a team on these functions and tasks.
  • Liaise with customers and other contractors and provide clear, precise updates, whilst also recording job requirements for our clients, keeping an efficient and productive relationship.
  • Undertake and successful complete mandatory National Highways Sector Scheme training requirements.
  • Ensure the safety of colleagues, clients, and the general public by being involved in the following;
    • Completion of electrical testing and pre-commissioning activities
    • Reviewing drawings and specifications, to ensure our works are completed in accordance with the required standards and quality, whilst achieving our expected timescales.
    • Completion of periodic inspections with electrical testing
    • Completion of Routine maintenance of highways infrastructure

 

 

The location of this apprenticeship role will be Leicester.

Minimum Educational Requirements

  • 5 GCSEs at 4 or above, including Maths and English (or Functional Skills/ Apprenticeship equivalent), or 3 A Levels (or BTEC equivalent) at grade C or above.
  • Desirable; a keen interest in Engineering

Recruitment Process

Applications for our apprenticeships will close on 21st February 2025.

Following your application, if you are successful, you will be invited to an in-person interview at our depot in Leicester. This is a chance to meet with the hiring team and discuss the role further. Our interviews will be competency (skills) based and are a chance for us to find out what your motivations are for your future career. This may contain an assessment centre portion, but we will advise of this before interview requests are sent.

Interviews will take place between January – March 2025.

Our apprentices will join the business on 26th August 2025 so you must be available from this date.
