As a Technical Support Engineer, you will play a key role in the integration of new and innovative technologies into business operations, whilst providing technical guidance & assistance to other members of the team.  

 

Reporting to a field services depot, you will work as part of a multi-disciplined operational team.  You will provide technical support to installation and maintenance employees in complex fault diagnosis on traffic signal assets, ancillary equipment and/ or highways systems. You will support the end-to-end delivery of scheme works from controller build to site acceptance testing on traffic signal installations and other highway systems. 

 

Areas of Technical Responsibility / Tasks: 

•    Technical support for colleagues on a variety of traffic signal assets, ancillary equipment and/ or highways systems
•    Co-ordinate and lead commissioning of traffic signal assets, ancillary equipment and/or highways systems
•    Complete minor software configurations to traffic signal controllers, ancillary equipment and/ or highways systems
•    Work collaboratively by building and maintaining a positive relationship with your internal and external customers and any contractors that may be on site
•    Support contract management team with technical site surveys and visits to assist in the efficient and safe delivery of works
•    Assist colleagues in complex fault diagnosis across a wide range of traffic signal assets, ancillary equipment and/ or highway electrical systems including, Closed Circuit Television (CCTV), Variable Message Sign (VMS), speed cameras, Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR)
•    Provide remote and onsite support to other members of the team
•    Complete Configurations, FAT Testing and Electrical designs
•    Supporting the training, development, and upskilling of other team members utilising your product and industry knowledge & experience.
•    Highlighting quality issues and feeding this back in a constructive manner to management team
•    Assist the Contract Manager/Contract Engineer to ensure all enabling tasks have been completed to ensure scheme / project can be completed within agreed timeframes e.g. controller built on time, configuration completed
•    Adopting and promoting new business policies and processes in a positive way
•    Support the integration of new technologies and products into our daily operations
•    Support the delivery of technical projects through the installation, commissioning and set up of complex communications and detection equipment. 
•    Working out of hours to support maintenance and installation needs, including taking part in an on-call rota.
•    Successful completion of mandatory National Highway Sector Scheme training requirements as well as product and equipment training. Training will be a mixture of formal, peer to peer, on the job and self-learning. 
•    Ensuring works are completed in accordance with the site specification, in a timely manner and to a sufficient quality level.   
•    Book time in accordance with the “Variable Pay Policy – Field Services” and LTB process. 
•    Support a positive Health & Safety culture in accordance with the company’s policies and procedures. For example, through the review and completion of relevant task specific risk assessments, event reporting, vehicle & equipment checks, and correct use of lone working device.  
•    Accurate collection and processing of data to enable analysis of equipment performance.
•    When required you will assist and support maintenance activities e.g. routine and corrective maintenance, periodic inspections 
•    Any other duties reasonably requested within the skills required for the role. 
 

Educational Requirements:

Desirable;
4 GCSE’s including Mathematics and English (Grades A-C/ or 4-9) or HNC/ONC/ City and Guilds or equivalent experience in electrical engineering or similar.

Experience: 

Desirable;

•    Working outside and working at heights
•    Working as part of a team and working unsupervised
•    Understanding of electrical and mechanical engineering theories 
•    Working with hand and small power tools
•    Understanding and appreciation of manual handling techniques across a variety of equipment 
•    Configuration software experience (including traffic signal controllers and complex communication detection equipment)
•    Commissioning of traffic signal assets and/or ancillary equipment 
 

 

Essential

•    Full UK Driving Licence
•    IT Proficient (able to use laptops, smart phones, apps and tablets)
•    Experience of maintaining and testing traffic signal equipment
