Do you want to make a difference with the work you do? Join us as a Commodity Manager for ITS Equipment

As Commodity Manager for ITS Equipment, you will help build a resilient, responsive and commercially strong supply chain for intelligent transport systems and related field service requirements. You will be a key local procurement contact for suppliers, field teams and internal stakeholders, working collaboratively with regional and global commodity colleagues.

You will develop a full commodity strategy and turn operational requirements and demand forecasts into practical sourcing and supplier plans, improve commercial governance and help ensure that equipment and services are available when the business needs them.

Responsibilities:

  • Define, develop and implement commodity strategies for ITS equipment including cables, poles, street furniture, retention sockets, feeder pillars and other relevant field service requirements, aligned with business needs and wider regional and global strategies.
  • Build trusted relationships with suppliers and internal stakeholders, becoming the UK point of contact for procurement matters within the category.
  • Work with field, operational and technical teams to understand short, medium and long-term requirements, forecasts and changes in demand, adapting and improving the commodity strategies to meet requirements with evolving market conditions.
  • Translate business requirements into sourcing plans, supplier commitments and practical commercial actions.
  • Lead or support sourcing activities, tenders and negotiations according to their scale and complexity.
  • Develop and maintain contracts, framework agreements, price schedules and suitable call-off arrangements, reducing reliance on reactive purchasing.
  • Monitor supplier performance, capacity, lead times and market developments, working with colleagues and suppliers to resolve issues and improve service.
  • Implement supplier segmentation, performance reviews, development plans and appropriate escalation where required.
  • Identify savings, cost avoidance and total cost opportunities while protecting quality, availability and supply continuity.
  • Contribute to supply-chain risk assessments and continuity plans for operationally important equipment and services.
  • Maintain accurate supplier, contract, forecast and performance information and provide clear updates on savings, risks and delivery.
  • Develop into a trusted source of commercial guidance, promoting early procurement engagement and consistent ways of working.

Qualifications & Experience:

Essential

  • Experience in procurement, sourcing, supplier management, commercial management, operations or another relevant environment.
  • An understanding of commercial negotiations, supplier relationships, contracts or cost management.
  • The ability to analyse information and translate business requirements into practical actions.
  • Strong communication and relationship building skills, with the ability to work collaboratively across different teams.
  • An organised and proactive approach and the ability to prioritise a varied workload.
  • The confidence to ask questions, challenge constructively and support effective problem solving.

Desirable, but not essential

  • Experience in ITS, traffic technology, electronics, electrical equipment, infrastructure or another technical supply environment.
  • Experience of strategic sourcing, category planning, competitive tendering or supplier performance management.
  • Knowledge of forecasting, supply continuity, supplier capacity, lead-time management or supply chain risk.
  • A CIPS qualification, degree or equivalent professional experience.
  • Technical sales experience within traffic signals, highways, electrical engineering or a similar infrastructure environment.
  • Strong customer relationship management and stakeholder engagement skills.
  • Ability to explain complex technical concepts in a clear and commercially focused manner.
  • Experience supporting tenders, proposals, quotations and business development activities.
  • Commercial awareness with an understanding of cost, risk, margin and project delivery.
  • Excellent communication, influencing and cross-functional collaboration skills.
  • Strong problem-solving abilities with a focus on continuous improvement and customer satisfaction.
  • Commitment to safe working practices and operational excellence.

We Offer:

  • Competitive base salary with an annual bonus.
  • Continuous training and learning opportunities to support career development.
  • 26 days of holiday, increasing up to 29 with length of service.
  • 37.5-hour working week plus paid overtime and unsociable hours uplift.
  • Excellent pension, with matching contributions up to 10% of pensionable salary.
  • Flexible benefits package to suit your personal needs.
  • Investment in personal development and support for membership of professional institutions.
