Java Backend Developer for Urban Mobility Platform (m/f)

Who are we looking for? 

We are looking for a new colleague with a strong Java backend focus, at mid-level or senior level. You will develop new capabilities while improving and maintaining existing code. The role combines software development, technical design, integration and operational ownership. 

You will work on Yutraffic Symphony, our next-generation platform for urban traffic control and mobility management. The platform helps cities monitor, manage and  optimize traffic across cloud and on-premises environments.

What will be your responsibilities?

Build the backend behind smarter urban mobility 

• Develop data-driven software for road traffic control and traffic management. 

• Design, implement and operate microservice architectures across cloud and on-premises environments. 

• Work primarily with Java, protocols, data formats and APIs. 

• Analyse requirements, shape technical concepts and support customer projects. 

• Contribute to lifecycle management, monitoring, incident management and continuous improvement. 

• Deliver new features and resolve production defects and security vulnerabilities. 

What do you need to qualify for the role?

• Very good Java skills. 
• A degree in computer science, IT, engineering or a comparable qualification. 

• Very good knowledge of microservice design, containerization with Docker, and orchestration with Kubernetes. 

• Experience with relational and NoSQL databases. 

• Experience with message brokers or streaming technologies such as Kafka or Flink. 

• You can communicate in English (you'll be working with colleagues from abroad on a daily basis)

We would appreciate it if you also have the following:

• Experience with AI-assisted or agentic development tools such asClaude Code, GitHub Copilot or similar
• Python, JavaScript/TypeScript or C++. 
• GitLab CI, Nexus, Terraform and CI/CD experience. 
• AWS, Azure or GCP and hybrid operating models. 
• TDD, automated testing, code reviews, refactoring and security best practices. 
• Good knowledge of XML, JSON, ASN.1, and SOAP/REST APIs. Experience with asynchronous message processing, such as MQTT is an advantage. 
• GIS, map services or traffic-related data models.
