As an Electrical Engineer, you will be personally contributing to crafting the future by joining an R&D embedded systems team that realizes product innovation and develops our nation’s infrastructure.  Our traffic controllers, road-side units, and other devices support the complex decision-making tasks to control and optimize the flow of traffic and travel times.    

Together with the established engineering team, you will supervise the remote production process to make sure that ITS devices are produced efficiently and meet consistent quality. Regular visits to the production site are required.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Requirements: Understand the end user and capture their needs, pain points, and how to address those. Distill specifications from industry standards and shape the product design for compliance.  

  • Design: Craft high level system designs, review other’s designs and create board schematics with component selection for industrial environments, optimizing value for cost.  

  • Implementation: Support CAD/Layout experts by providing constraints and layout considerations, integrating your board into the overall product.  

  • Validation: Create test plans and perform bring-up, I/O validation, system and environmental testing. 

  • Innovation: Ideate and create new concepts to solve old problems, find better ways to develop products in terms of reliability, adaptability, testability, maintainability, etc. 

  • Collaboration: Engage with colleagues in the US and in the UK as part of an agile hardware/firmware team. Lead by example and excel with a dynamic team in a highly collaborative environment 

  • Delivery: Realize the product vision on time and on budget by identifying risk areas and developing/executing creative risk mitigation measures to counteract obstacles and delays  

  • Problem Solving: Support identifying and resolving issues that arise in production or deployment, occasionally travelling to customer sites for on-premise analysis 

  • Create and maintain work instructions 

  • Implement methods to inspect and test the products 

  • Design tooling and scripts for software configuration of the product 

  • Perform failure analysis 

  • Lead continuous improvement, problem solving and process improvement activities 

  • Stay current with industry product specification 

 

Preferred Education, Skills, and Experience:

Proved experience in following: Linux, embedded systems and PCBAs, are mandatory.

Education:

Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering, Electronics or related field.

Experience:

3–6 years in production engineering 

 

KSA (Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Knowledge: Engineering foundations (math, computing, engineering fundamentals), quality & process models, standards/compliance (e.g., MUTCD for traffic)
  • Skills: Requirements specification/validation; design synthesis/evaluation; CM tools; test planning; data analysis
  • Abilities: Problem-solving, cross-functional collaboration, clear technical communication across stakeholders

  • Systems thinking & requirements analysis (translate customer/operational needs into verifiable requirements, traceability)
  • Design & architecture (concept development, trade studies, risk/quality integration)
  • Safety & reliability engineering (FMEA, hazard analysis, field safety protocols)
  • Configuration management & lifecycle management (baseline control, change control, documentation)
  • Stakeholder & supplier management (technical reviews, acceptance criteria, contracts support)
